Today, 17 August 2015 Android officially announced its upcoming version of Android operating system name with "Marshmellow" version 6.

Next Version of Google Android M is, Marshmellow

Google Android follow alphabetical order to name its Android Operating systems. So far the order had gone like this;

1. Alpha version 1.1
2. Beta Version 1.2
3. Cupcake  version1.5
4. Donut version 1.6
5. Eclair Released Versions 2.0 to 2.1
6. Froyo Released versions 2.2 to 2.2.3
7. Gingerbread Released versions 2.3 to 2.3.7
8. Honeycomb Released versions 3.0 to 3.2.6
9. Ice Cream Sand witch Released versions 4.0 to 4.0.4
10. Jelly Bean Released versions 4.1 to 4.3.1
11. KitKat Released Versions 4.4 to 4.4.4
12. Lollipop Released Versions 5.0 to 5.1.1
13. Marshmallow which is currently available with developer preview 3 version 

From the above Operating Systems, only some Android version became popular because of several factors like UI design, Smooth Navigation, Improved Security etc..,

Well, those Android versions which bring Good name to Android and helped in increasing its shares and sales in smartphone industry by giving a tough competition with other competitors like apple, blackberry and windows are 

• Gingerbread FirstEver successor for Android OS
• Jelly Bean, It created Revolution in Smartphone industry by bringing the complete make over the UI when compared to previous versions of Android
• Jelly Bean so far had been greatest successor when compared to other android versions
• KitKat, This version of Android completely concentrated on Security and large UI makeover.
• Android Lolipop hasn't been that much popular when compared to previously released Android versions because of its earlier versions of Android, contains so many bugs.
• Because of the earlier bugs that arise in the Android L, the company has to release its next version in the name of android L version 5.0.2!

Android M, which is named as Marshmallow officially today, currently it is available with Developer preview 3.

And the company also released Android SDK version 6.0 which comes with the Final Android M Preview.

The company hasn't mentioned when Android M, Marshmallow would be releasing! 

Developers can develop Apps for Android M using the latest version of SDK which would be available at Android developers Blog
